The Discovery Center residential program includes a Math, Science, and Language Arts curriculum for 5th and 6th grade students.
Key Facts About Curriculum
- The Math, Science, and Language Arts curriculum was originally designed in 2007 by Lynn Gaumont from the University of Hartford Magnet School and Cheryl Kloczko, Acting Superintendent of Schools in the Torrington School District.
- Sharon Roberts, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, consistently redesigns, evaluates, and updates the curriculum in order to assure the consistent reflection of academic standards.
- Discovery Center staff works in collaboration with teachers in participating schools and curriculum supervisors to meet students' academic needs.
- The contents of the curriculum are based on the State of Connecticut Department of Education guidelines and in accordance with requirements for the Common Core State Standards.
- The curriculum is reviewed annually by representatives from Capital Region Education Council and the Connecticut Department of Education.
- Learning at The Discovery Center provides an experiential approach to learning in accordance with Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
